Fears counties like Leitrim will be worst affected by lack of roads funding



There are fears counties like Leitrim will be worst affected by inadequate roads funding next year according to a local Councillor.

Fianna Fail Councillor in Leitrim Paddy O’Rourke says he’s very worried about comments from the Transport Minister this week.

Minister Shane Ross admitted that there isn’t enough money to maintain the standard of local and regional roads.

He says he’s secured a 10 per cent increase in the budget for the upkeep of local roads in 2017 but that’s still only less than half of the €580m that is needed.

Councillor O’Rourke says when his money is divided out it will be a very small sum for counties like Leitrim and bigger counties with better political representation will benefit most:
