Cutting fish stocks makes no sense, says KFO

The head of the Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation says that it makes no sense to cut fish stocks in the coming year after increasing them last year.

Sean O’Donoghue is calling on the Minister for Agriculture to reject any cuts to stocks as propsed by the EU Commission.

EU Fisheries Ministers are due to meet on the matter on Monday to assess the quotas for 2017.

Sean Donoghue says some of the proposed cuts come on the back of increased announced last year.

He says there is a 45% proposed cut for haddock in this region in the north west when it was actually increased by 30% last year:
