Mercy to be home to new secondary Gaelsoil for Sligo



Sligo is to get a new secondary Gaelscoil.

It follows a lengthy campaign by a committee set up to secure an Irish-speaking unit for pupils in the county.

A new Gaelscoil unit is to be set up at the Mercy Secondary School in Sligo for the school year starting September 2017.

The Board of Managment there approved the move this week.

Carol Ní Chormaic is on the committee which has been campaigning for this long-await ‘aonad’ or unit.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, she said that this unit will benefit not only pupils in Sligo but those coming out of primary Gaelscoils in Leitrim and south Donegal as well:
