Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA Club Notes

There was great sadness in the club last week when we learned that our club President Walter Kivlehan had passed away. He was synonymous with the GAA in Coolaney / Mullinabreena for more then fifty years. In the early sixties Walter came in as Club Secretary to revive the club. He remained as Club secretary for more than thirty years, a period which saw the GAA in the Area put on a firm footing. He was also was involved in the management of teams at all grades for the club down through the years. He along with other  committee members, organised the purchase of the club grounds in 1977.  This was a major milestone in the history of the club.

Walter also had major involvement in the GAA at county level. He was a selector with the sucessful minor team of 1968 whitch won the Connacht Championship and reached the All Ireland Final. He was Secretary of the County Minor Board for almost two decades through the 1970’s and 1980’s and Assistant – Secretary of the County Board for twenty five years from 1970 to 1994. He was a member of Connacht Council from 1995 to 2001.The Club is very grateful to Walter for his lifelong involvement with the club. He was one of life’s true gentlemen.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Annie Mai, sons Fr. Paul and Walter and his extended family and friends. Ar dheis De go raibh se.

As a mark of respect the clubs AGM, which was scheduled for Sunday evening last was postponed, and will now take place at a date in the new year.
