Work on Killybegs church completed for this year



Work on stablising a 15th Century church in Killybegs, Co Donegal, has been finished for this season.

The work, at the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, involved clearing and levelling the floor of the old building to make it safe for people to visit.

The church, with a graveyard around it and an ancient holy well dedicated to St Catherine, is an area of highly-significant archaeological and historic importance.

The importance of St Catherine’s Church is recognised by its listing as a registered national monument.

Archaeologist Derek Vial, chairman of Killybegs History and Heritage Committee, is overseeing the project.
