Riverstown to mark 75th anniversary of church building



A major celebration will take place next weekend in Riverstown, Co Sligo.

It’s to mark the 75th anniversary of the building of the Sacred Heart Church in the parish.

It was opened and dedicated on December 7th 1941, in the midst of World War One.

The anniversary will be marked on Sunday, December 4th with a number of events.

They include a procession starting at 11:30am from the site of what was the old church in Riverstown to the present church, to arrive for Mass at 12 noon, the chief concelebrant of which will be the Bishop of Elphin, Kevin Doran.

Parish Priest of Riverstown, Fr A B O’Shea, has been telling Ocean FM News about a new book to be launched to mark the occasion.
