Councillor critical of minister over N17

A south Sligo Councillor has hit out at a government minister over the lack of specific plans for the upgrade of the N17 road from Collooney to the Mayo border.

Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley was responding to the speech given by Minister for Jobs Mary Mitchell-O’Connor at the Sligo Chamber of Commerce annual dinner on Saturday night.

Cllr Gormley told a Ballymote/Tubbercurry Municipal District meeting n Tubbercurry this morning that the Minister must have been ‘well prompted’ because she mentioned the N17 ‘just in passing’.

Cllr Gormley said the N17 needs a complete overhaul but it’s ‘forgotten and forgotten.’

Speaking to Ocean FM News after the meeting she said she’s disappointed there’s no indication when the work on upgrading the road will actually begin:
