Teagasc praised for exceptional services despite reduction in funding & staff

Despite continuous reduction in funding and staffing Teagasc had continued to provide the exceptional advisory and educational services necessary to support farmers as they seek sustainability in an increasingly challenging environment.

This was the view expressed by Independent MEP Marian Harkin when she presented graduation certificates to participants in the Green Cert programme in Donegal town last Friday.

She said that the fact that the number of participants in the Green Cert programme in the North West had expanded from 158 to 458 reflected both the importance of the qualification to young farmers and their interest in equipping themselves with the means to compete in an increasingly competitive businesses.

Speaking to Ocean FM the MEP said Irish farmers are competing at a global level.
