New committee has two weeks to save rural Sligo post office



A committee set up to keep the post office in Ballygawley say they have two weeks to save the service.

Following a public gathering on Wednesday and a meeting last night the committee has put together an action plan to keep the post office open.

The committee consists of Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy, local businessman Dermot Fallon, Mary Hamilton from the active retirement group and constituency organiser for Fine Gael in Sligo/Leitrim Tomas Walsh and Paul McTiernan, the son of the previous postmaster.

An Post is seeking submissions from the public on the future of the post office with a possible closure one of those being considered.

Councillor Healy told Ocean FM the committee are meeting all four local TDs tomorrow morning.
