Social Welfare for seasonal workers must be addressed says Donegal TD

A Donegal TD has called on the Minister for Social Protection to address social welfare problems for seasonal workers in Donegal.

Deputy Thomas Pringle says that despite an overall increase in core social welfare payments problems persist for seasonal workers in Killybegs and other parts of Donegal.

Deputy Pringle wants to see the benefit increased from 9 to 12 months and 6 months back to 9 months for those under 260 credits.

This could come at a cost of just €39 million according to the Independent TD.

He told Ocean FM seasonal workers are finding it difficult to draw down their jobseekers benefit because of the length of layoff periods.
