Public meeting takes place tonight to discuss Ballygawley post office

A public meeting is to take place in Ballygawley this evening to discuss the future of the village’s post office.

Last night almost 300 people turned out to support keeping the service in Ballygawley following the recent death of the postmaster Colm McTiernan.

The service is under threat after An Post confirmed the postmaster contract is vacant and a decision on it’s future will be made in three weeks following public consultation.

This evening’s meeting takes place in Callaghan’s Bar, Ballygawley, at 8pm.

Paul McTiernan was speaking to Ocean FM on behalf of the McTiernan family and he says it’s necessary for the community.

Meanwhile these locals told Ocean FM how important the service is to the area.
