University Hospital Letterkenny is the most overcrowded hospital in the country today.
There are 45 people waiting on hospital trolleys and in the overflow area of wards according to the latest trolley watch figures.
It is a rise of 13 from the numbers waiting in the hospital yesterday.
The full capacity protocol is still in place at the hospital and the public are urged to use the emergency department only in the case of real emergencies.
They are also encouraged to contact their GP or GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance
In Sligo University Hospital there are 13 people waiting for a bed according to the INMO.
Maura Hickey is the Industrial Relations officer with the INMO and she told Ocean FM management in Letterkenny were forced to open three additional areas.
