Leitrim councillor wants text alert services to work together

In the wake of recent robberies in north Leitrim a county councillor wants all community text alert services to be able to work together.

Fine Gael councillor Sean McDermott believes if alerts were shared between communities and across county borders between Leitrim, Donegal and Cavan it could help prevent crime.

At present there are 17 groups across Leitrim but alerts are only distributed within each community.

Three tractors, a quad bike and other farm machinery were stolen in Glenfarne and Dromahair recently and councillor McDermott said by the time alerts were circulated those responsible had likely moved on.

Speaking to Ocean FM he said the Gardai are in agreement with him.
