Campaign to ensure post office remains open



A campaign to ensure a post office in the north west remains open is to step up a gear this week.

Local politicians are calling on the local community in Ballygawley in county Sligo to come out and support two public gatherings that are taking place this week to ensure the local post office stays open.

The service is up for review following a bereavement within the family running the facility recently.

Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says a demonstration of support will take place outside the post office on Wednesday evening at 6pm and a a public meeting on Thursday at 8p.m in Callaghan’s bar to form a committee to lead the campaign.

Since the closure of nearby post offices in Geevagh and Ballintogher, Ballygawley is used by residents in the wider area.
