ASTI hopeful of a resolution as school closures loom



The ASTI says school closures in the north west are the last thing teachers want next week.

Neil Curran, ASTI spokesperson for the north west says equal pay for teachers is still dominating the ASTI talks but junior cert reform will also have to be part of any solution.

Talks took place yesterday and continue today with the Department of Education aimed at preventing industrial action.

About 17 thousand secondary teachers including over 700 in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have threatened to withdraw from supervision and substitution duties from next Monday.

It could mean that schools will not be able to open next week.
