Chinese ambassador welcomed to Sligo



The recently appointed Chinese ambassador to Ireland has been welcomed to Sligo today.

Dr Yue Xiaoyong was met at County Hall by the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Cllr Hubert Keaney and Chief Executive Ciaran Hayes.

Cllrs Seamus Kilgannon, Dara Mulvey, Sean MacManus and Declan Bree were also present to meet the ambassador.

The Chinese flag is flying outside County Hall to mark the visit.

The ambassador told those present his visit was to promote closer and mutually beneficial relations between Sligo and China.

At a meeting, Cllr Keaney and Mr Hayes outlined Sligo’s strengths, its attractions and what it has to offer, such as its IT Sligo and its history of toolmaking and precision engineering.

The ambassador also heard about Sligo’s tourism, agriculture, industry and, of course, WB Yeats.

The ambassador was also shown a video of Prince Charles’s and his wife Camilla’s visit to Sligo.
