Drumcliffe/Rosses Point Club Notes

Sunday, October 23rd, 2016
Congratulations to our senior men’s footballers who regained Division 1 status for 2017 thanks to an impressive 1-15 to 1-6 win over Geevagh in last Sunday’s Division 2 league final at Markievicz Park. The team produced a fine hour of football with all bar four of their scores coming from play. Well done to the players, manager Kevin Dufficy, and trainer Fergal O’Flaherty. The silverware is a fitting recognition for a long season of effort and commitment by the players and management. A special mention for senior manager Kevin Dufficy, who headed straight to Dublin and the airport after the match to begin a new work placement overseas. We wish Kevin well in his new work role. Sunday’s team was: Ronan McCormack, Colin Feeney, Dara Long, Jude McGarry, Jamie Gillen (0-3), Neil Ewing (Capt), Seán Power, Brian ÓgMurphy, Brian Monaghan, John Harvey, Paul Logan (0-6), Niall Collery (0-2), John Hester, Cian Lally (1-1), Niall Canning (0-3). Subs: Kevin Davey for John Hester, Seán Peyton for Ógie Murphy, Stephen Regan for John Harvey, Justin Lyons for Ronan McCormack, Paddy Gormley for Cian Lally.
The team’s achievements will be celebrated in full at the club’s End of Season Boston Tea Party in the Radisson Hotel on Friday, November 11th, at 7:30pm. This will be our big night of the year and we are keen to have all units of the club represented. Event details are on the club Facebook page. For table bookings and more info, call 0876855621.
The number 3 jersey belonging to the senior men’s football kit appears to be missing. Please contact any club officer if you can help locate its whereabouts.
With the dust barely settled on the senior team’s success last Sunday, attention now turns to our U16 girls footballers who take on Tourlestrane in Tourlestrane this Thursday night under lights in the re-arranged U16 ‘A’ Championship final. We are hoping as many club supporters as possible will travel to this game to give the team every encouragement. Throw-in on Thursday is 7pm.
Our U21 footballers will conclude their group campaign in the ‘B’ Championship this Sunday afternoon (30th) when they host St Molaise Gaels in Oxfield at 2pm. We need a win to have a chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
Our boys U14 footballers will be spending Halloween in county Down next Monday. They’ve been invited by the Clonduff GAA Club to play a challenge game, and then take part in the club’s Halloween celebrations afterwards. Contact event organier Jimmy Smith for more info 0879925791.
Thanks to everybody who turned up and helped out with  last Saturday morning’s final GAA Nursery coaching session for 2016. All our young players received a medal and goodie bag for their hard work this year. Particular thanks go to all the mums (and dads) who helped out behind the scenes with the catering and organisation of the event. The nursery will be back in early March 2017. Remember, keep practising!
The club is looking for interested musicians/dancers/singers and groups to represent DRP in this year’s Scor na nÓg (U17). Contact our cultural officer John O’Callaghan on 0872804201.
Congratulations to Noelle Carroll who ‘tied the knot’ last weekend with Enda Mitchell in Rathcormac. We wish the happy couple every future health and happiness. Congrats also to the O’Brien family, Tullyhill, on the birth of new baby Donncha last week.
