Visiting restrictions remain at Sligo University Hospital

Sligo University Hospital and the Saolta University Health Care Group have confirmed to Ocean FM today that the visiting restrictions that have been in place at the hospital will remain for all of this week.

Restrictions have now been in place for more than a week at the hospital because of the Norovirus.

And the hospital has again appealed for the cooperation of the public in its effort to prevent the spread of Norovirus, which causes vomitting and diarrhoea.

No visiting is allowed, except for end-of-life situations and other exceptional circumstances, as agreed with the specific ward manager in advance of visiting.

The public is still being advised not to contact the Emergency Department unless absolutely necessary.

Instead, GPs or GP Out-of-Hours service should be contacted in the first instance.

Meanwhile, there are four patients on trolleys today at Sligo University Hospital while there are nine in Letterkenny.

In Galway University Hospital, there are 17 patients on trolleys.
