There’s mixed news on the jobs front in Sligo this morning.

Connollys Motor Group is investing 4.5 million euro in a new dealership in Collooney – that’s set to open this September.

Twenty new full-time jobs are to be created by the company which has just been appointed as main dealers for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars.

Meanwhile, following yesterday’s shock closure of businesses operated by the McCormack family – efforts are underway to sell the 15 businesses affected by the closure of the Excol Oil Limited.

It operates the ten filling stations, two oil distribution facilities and three other businesses under the umbrella of Mccormack Garages Sligo Ltd.

They closed with immediate effect yesterday with the loss over 200 jobs.

Bank of Ireland appointed Grant Thorton as receivers – they are understood to be making every effort to sell the businesses which are located in Sligo, Castlebaldwin, Drumshanbo, Manorhamilton, Leitrim village as well as businesses in county Cavan and one in Athboy in Meath.
