MacSharry says he would abolish zero hour contracts

A Sligo/Leitrim Dail deputy says he would abolish so-called zero-hour contracts for employees.

Fianna Fail Deputy Marc MacSharry made the comments during a Dail debate in which he called for greater support for the regions to promote employment and develop their economies.

He said the money follows population and senior ministeries, neither of which the north west has.

He also said employers who have adequate turnover and profitability should give employees the suppoprts they require.

But he also said they had to be realistic.

However, he had no hesitation about where he stood in relation to zero-hour contracts.
