The Minister for the Diaspora says he’d like to give Irish born pensioners free travel.
In an interview with the Sunday Times Donegal TD Joe McHugh says it seems unfair that people who left Ireland have to pay the same high costs as other tourists when they return.
The Junior Minister says he’s also instructed civil servants in his department to inject enthusiasm into the idea of holding a referendum to give Irish abroad the right to vote in Presidential elections.
However he says defining what we mean by Irish is likely to be a stumbling block.
