Senior: The Seniors completed their round robin matches in the Senior Championship with a round five win over Geevagh at Markievicz Park last Sunday afternoon. Two goals from Colm Egan inside the opening ten minutes sent Mary’s on their way to a half time lead of St. Mary’s 2-7 Geevagh 0-4. Second half goals from Egan, Mark Breheny and Michael Hanley sealed the win on a scoreline of St. Mary’s 5-15 Geevagh 0-7. The Seniors have now qualified for the Senior Championship semi finals for the first time since 2006 and they will face the winners of Coolera/Strandhill and St. John’s on the weekend of September 15/16. Training for all panel members continues this week on Tuesday and Thursday at 7.00pm.
Junior: The Juniors played near neighbours St. John’s in the Junior A Championship Semi Final last Sunday evening at Oxfield losing out by six points. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, Mary’s defended stoutly and trailed at half time by 1-5 to 0-3. Despite having most of the possession in the second half and only trailing by two points with ten minutes left, Mary’s couldn’t close the half time deficit and lost out in the end on a scoreline of St. Mary’s 0-9 St. John’s 2-9. Best for Mary’s on the day were Kevin Coen, Chris Kelly, Seamie Cawley and substitute Robbie Keegan. Well done to all the players for their efforts during the League and Championship campaigns and to the management team of David Martyn and Conor Conway for their commitment and hard work over the season.
