100 people attended fracking meeting

Around 100 people attended a meeting in Leitrim on Friday evening last to discuss the process of hydraulic fracturing or fracking.

 

Award Winning Human Rights Worker, Nnimmo Bassey addressed the event in Manorhamilton to voice his opposition to extracting shale gas.

 

Two gas companies have been granted licenses to explore for natural gas in the Lough Allen basin which covers parts of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

 

Nnimmo Bassey is best known for his organisation's work to oppose Shell's activities in Nigeria.

 

Speaking to Ocean Fm news today, Mr. Bassey says Friday’s meeting was a very engaging event.
